Cary Man Arrested Over Discovery of Bomb Materials
A Cary man is under arrest after authorities discovered materials believed to be used for constructing improvised explosive devices. The investigation began when a family member alerted police about suspicious items in 57-year-old David Arthur Lawrence's vehicle, including gunpowder, fuse cord, and PVC pipes. The items were later removed and brought to the police station for further analysis by the Raleigh Police Department Bomb Unit.
During questioning, Lawrence admitted to assembling the devices, describing them as "noise makers" and denying any intent to harm. He claimed to have purchased the materials from local businesses and detonated the devices on private land in Wake County.
Lawrence remains in custody with a $15,000 secured bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Monday. Authorities continue to investigate the case, which has raised concerns about public safety. Read Full Report

Wake Schools Block Boys’ Volleyball, Citing Sustainability Concerns
Efforts to expand boys’ volleyball in Wake County schools have stalled as the district declined an offer to fund the sport, citing challenges with sustainability. Advocates argue that district support would not only provide opportunities for male students but also help expedite the sport’s recognition by the N.C. High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA).
Boys’ volleyball has seen explosive growth nationwide and in North Carolina, with the number of high school club teams in the state jumping from seven in 2022 to 68 in 2023. Reaching 110 teams is essential for the sport to be sanctioned by the NCHSAA. The North Carolina Boys Volleyball Association (NCBVA), with backing from USA Volleyball, offered to cover costs like uniforms and referees for Wake County schools.
Despite these efforts, Wake County officials cited financial and logistical hurdles in adopting boys’ volleyball as a district-wide program. Only Millbrook and Enloe high schools currently support boys’ volleyball clubs, leaving students at other schools unable to compete in the NCBVA’s state championship.
Advocates, including students who spoke at a school board meeting, stress that boys’ volleyball provides an inclusive option for students who might not participate in other sports. They also argue that introducing the sport now, while funding is available, would prevent a rushed rollout if state sanctioning is achieved.
With neighboring counties embracing the sport, Wake County’s decision could hinder its progress statewide. For now, the district’s hesitation leaves the future of boys’ volleyball in the hands of individual schools. Read Full Report

The Answer to the Cary Spotlight Hook Trivia Question 👇👇👇
Portuguese is the official language of Brazil, making it the only Portuguese-speaking country in South America. Introduced during colonization in the 16th century, Portuguese has since evolved into its own distinct Brazilian variety, influenced by indigenous languages, African dialects, and other immigrant tongues. Today, it serves as a unifying force in Brazil, spoken by nearly the entire population.
