Wake County Bus Driver Allegedly Broke Child’s Leg, Charged With Abuse

In a case that has shaken the local community, a Wake County bus driver is facing child abuse charges after a three-year-old student’s leg was broken in an alleged incident of intentional harm.

The driver, Tiffian Truesdale, was transporting the child from Durant Elementary School to daycare in September when the injury occurred. Court documents claim that Truesdale intentionally inflicted serious harm, leading to a fractured femur.

The incident has sparked concerns about the safety and accountability measures for young children under the care of school transportation providers. As the legal case moves forward, questions remain about potential changes to policies or procedures to prevent similar occurrences in the future.

The school system and law enforcement are continuing their investigation while the child’s recovery and family circumstances remain undisclosed. Read Full Report

Quiet Cary Neighborhood Rocked by Triple Shooting Deaths

A tragic scene unfolded in a quiet Cary neighborhood this week when police discovered three people dead inside a home on Smokemont Drive. The victims were identified as 54-year-old Erica Alyse Holton, her 19-year-old son, Xavier Neil Holton, and his girlfriend, Aminah Michelle Guy, also 19. All three sustained fatal gunshot wounds, according to police.

Described as an isolated case, the incident has left the victims’ families searching for answers. Aminah was remembered as an ambitious and creative young woman who had been in a relationship with Xavier for over a year. The pair met while attending North Carolina Central University and were often together, according to Aminah’s family.

However, the days leading up to the tragedy were marked by warning signs. Xavier reportedly began experiencing hearing voices weeks earlier and was involved in a high-speed car crash earlier this month, believed by Aminah’s family to have been deliberate.

The case is now with the Office of Medical Examiners, where autopsies are scheduled. Meanwhile, the community mourns as police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding this heartbreaking loss. Read Full Report

100-Year-Old Resident Honored for Protecting Cary’s History

Sallie Jones, a centenarian and lifelong Cary resident, has been honored with the 2024 Hometown Spirit Award, which celebrates citizens who enhance Cary’s quality of life by preserving its traditions and values. Descended from some of Cary’s earliest African American families, Jones returned to her hometown after retirement and discovered her ancestors’ burial site at the Cary First Christian Church cemetery had been neglected and jeopardized by development.

Driven by a passion for preservation, Jones initiated a comprehensive effort to restore and protect the site. She organized a cemetery survey, enlisted archaeologists who identified over 160 unmarked graves, and meticulously researched records to honor the individuals buried there. Her advocacy led to the site’s designation as Cary’s first historic landmark and Wake County’s first cemetery landmark, ensuring its historical significance is preserved.

In collaboration with the Town of Cary and community organizations, Jones also contributed to walking tours that educate residents about the contributions of African American families to Cary’s history. Her tireless work over more than two decades reflects her commitment to safeguarding the town’s heritage and fostering community pride.

Presented by Mayor Harold Weinbrecht, the Hometown Spirit Award recognizes residents who exemplify qualities like hospitality, patriotism, and preservation. This year’s finalists included Brent Brandow and Dan Pike, who were also lauded for their community contributions. Read Full Report
