Organized Crime Suspected in Cary Home Invasion
Cary Police are investigating a home burglary in the Windermere neighborhood that may be connected to an organized South American crime group targeting wealthier homes in the Triangle area. The incident occurred during the day while the homeowner was briefly away picking up her child. The thieves entered through a side kitchen window, making off with $18,000 in cash and $33,000 in jewelry.
Investigators found a crumpled map in the backyard with the victim's home marked, pointing to a deliberate and planned effort. This burglary mirrors a string of recent incidents in Wake County, including one in Raleigh where arrests were made earlier this year, tying the crimes to a Chilean group.
Despite the presence of security systems in the neighborhood, no footage captured the burglary. Neighbors noticed two men wearing reflective vests near the home around the time of the break-in, raising concerns about criminals posing as workers. Cary Police have urged residents to stay alert and report any unusual behavior.

Get Ready: Caryโs Leaf Collection Begins November 4
Caryโs annual loose leaf collection starts November 4, with additional pickups scheduled for December 2 and January 21. Residents can rake or blow leaves to the curb up to a week before each date to ensure timely collection. Cary will visit every street at least twice before Christmas, with progress available through a live map at carync.gov/leaves.
To ensure smooth pickups, residents should pile leaves behind the curb and away from sidewalks, hydrants, and storm drains. Cars parked on streets can obstruct collection and should be removed when crews are scheduled to arrive. Cary also offers weekly yard waste collection and free contractor leaf drop-offs at the Citizenโs Convenience Center by request.
Once scheduled pickups conclude, residents can request additional leaf collection between February 7 and March 31, 2025, at no charge. For updates or tracking, homeowners can use carync.gov/leaves or download the Cary Collects app.
