Elevated Arsenic Levels Prompt Walmart to Recall Apple Juice in 25 States
In a precautionary move, Walmart is recalling nearly 10,000 cases of its Great Value brand apple juice from shelves across North Carolina and 24 other states, including the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. This action follows a Food and Drug Administration (FDA) alert regarding elevated arsenic levels in these products, which could potentially pose health risks.
The affected apple juice is packaged in six-packs of 8-ounce bottles and identified by the UPC code 0-78742-29655-5, with a βbest if used byβ date of December 28, 2024. The recall, initially announced on August 15, was upgraded to a Class II risk classification by the FDA last Friday, signaling that the consumption of these products may result in temporary or medically reversible adverse health effects but is unlikely to cause serious or long-term consequences.
According to the FDA, testing revealed arsenic levels at 13.2 parts per billion in the juice, exceeding the recommended maximum of 10 parts per billion set by the agency last year. Arsenic, a naturally occurring mineral, can be toxic and is considered more harmful in its inorganic form, which the Environmental Protection Agency has classified as a carcinogen.
The recall is a response to potential risks as even minor elevated levels of arsenic can lead to symptoms like vomiting, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. The FDA assures that the levels detected, while above guidelines, are not expected to lead to severe health effects. Read Full Report

The Answer to the Cary Spotlight Hook Trivia Question πππ
Honey is renowned for its remarkable properties, including its ability to act as a natural preservative. This is because honey has very low water content and high acidity, which creates an inhospitable environment for bacteria and microorganisms. Furthermore, honey contains small amounts of hydrogen peroxide, which inhibits the growth of microbes. These properties allow honey to remain fresh and prevent it from spoiling, even after thousands of years. Archaeologists have found pots of honey in ancient Egyptian tombs that were still preserved.
For more information about the unique properties of honey and its uses, you can visit the National Honey Board's website, which offers a wealth of knowledge on honey, its benefits, and various applications.
