Siler City Plane Crash Kills Two, FAA Investigating

In a devastating incident near Siler City Municipal Airport, a single-engine Piper PA-28 aircraft crashed, resulting in the deaths of two people.

The plane, owned by Executive Flight Training and Services, had taken off from Raleigh Executive Airport in Sanford and was scheduled to land in Siler City around 1:15 p.m.

Instead, it crashed at 12:50 p.m., engulfed in flames upon impact. Eyewitnesses reported seeing black smoke, prompting immediate emergency responses.

Despite the efforts of first responders, both occupants were found deceased. The FAA has taken over the investigation, with a preliminary report expected in the coming week. Read full story

Middle and High School Students Gain Auto Repair Skills at Wake Tech

Wake Technical Community College's Campus Automotive Repair & Service (CARS) Summer Academy provides middle and high school students with practical, hands-on training in automotive repair.

Held at the Hendrick Automotive Center, the program is designed to immerse students in various aspects of automotive maintenance, from adjusting fluid levels to checking engine hoses and belts.

The inaugural camp aims to inspire students to consider careers in the automotive industry, particularly in the growing field of electric vehicle maintenance. 

Additionally, the program teaches new drivers basic car maintenance skills to ensure vehicle safety. Wake Tech's initiative addresses the industry's need for skilled workers and equips students with valuable life skills. Read the full report

High-Stakes Showdown: Courage vs. Pride in NWSL Clash

The Orlando Pride, having extended their unbeaten streak despite a draw against the San Diego Wave last weekend, are set to face the North Carolina Courage tonight.

Both teams, tied for the most shutouts this season, promise a defensive showdown. Key to the game will be USWNT goalkeeper Casey Murphy of the Courage, who will try to keep Barbra Banda, currently second in the Golden Boot race, from scoring.

The Courage aim to break Orlando’s unbeaten streak in what promises to be an intense match.
