Local Author Linda Riedle Crafts a Dark and Gripping Tale in “Fatal Choice”

The Cary Spotlight newsletter is delighted to feature local author Linda Riedle, whose first novel Fatal Choice captivates readers with its chilling narrative and psychological intensity.

Set against a backdrop of a luxurious Durham mansion, the book follows Libby Goins, whose idyllic family life crumbles one tragic night in 2022 when a brutal attack claims the lives of her husband and five children. Left as the only survivor, Libby is plunged into a maze of secrets and guilt while Detectives Andrea Fuller and Jaden Greer investigate the tragedy, uncovering a 22-year-old secret that could determine Libby's fate.

The story is a compelling mix of suspense, mystery, and psychological drama, challenging readers to reflect on how buried truths can shape one's destiny.

Linda Riedle drew inspiration for the novel from a haunting memory of a newspaper headline she read as a teenager. Her father had remarked on a story of a family of seven being murdered by their backyard pool—a tragedy that left a lasting impression on Riedle. Using that real-life event as a springboard, she wove a fictional tale that merges themes of violence and hidden motivations with current headline-making topics.

Now living in Cary after relocating from the Washington, D.C. area nearly three decades ago, Riedle and her husband were drawn to the town's abundance of tech companies, vibrant basketball culture, and family-friendly environment. She hopes her story challenges readers to grapple with the unpredictable consequences of buried truths.

Just curious…
