Home Advantage Strategy: Hurricanes Reserve Playoff Tickets for Local Residents

On to the next round of the Playoffs. Credit: Carolina Hurricanes.

In a repeat of their 2022 strategy, the Carolina Hurricanes are limiting direct ticket sales for the upcoming NHL playoff games at PNC Arena exclusively to residents of North Carolina, South Carolina, and southern Virginia.

This move aims to ensure a dominant home crowd presence by reducing the number of visiting New York Rangers fans in the stadium. The Hurricanes will host Games 3, 4, and potentially 6 of the series at PNC Arena, with plenty of tickets still available starting at $139.

Conversely, the New York Rangers have sold out all their home game tickets, with the remaining being available at steep resale prices. Rangers fans keen on attending the away games can resort to secondary market platforms, where tickets are available for as low as $126.

This intense rivalry, marked by previous playoff encounters and a regular season advantage for the Rangers this year, sets the stage for a potentially exciting seven-game series. Read Full Story

How AnySoldier.com Turns Small Gestures into Major Morale Boosts

Sergeant Brian Horn, an Army Infantry Soldier with the 173rd Airborne Brigade, initiated a commendable gesture during his deployment in the Kirkuk area of Iraq by distributing care packages addressed to "Attn: Any Soldier®" to fellow soldiers who received little or no mail. This small act of kindness blossomed into AnySoldier.com, a significantly expanded global initiative aimed at providing support to deployed U.S. military personnel across all services.

Founded by Horn's family in August 2003, AnySoldier.com began as a personal project to assist soldiers in one Army unit but quickly grew due to high demand. The website now allows people from around the world to send support, including letters and packages, directly to selected units based on real-time needs communicated by volunteer military contacts listed on the site. This ensures that contributions are both meaningful and practical. Designed to promote a personal connection, the site enables supporters to choose whom they wish to help, providing specific mailing information and guidance on what to send via detailed instructions and FAQs.

The operation hinges on volunteer soldiers stationed overseas who distribute the incoming mail marked "Attn: Any Soldier®" to those in greater need of morale support. This gesture not only brings joy and a sense of connectedness to service members but also helps bridge the gap between the military and civilian worlds. Celebrating its enduring commitment, AnySoldier.com has been a daily updated source of support for nearly two decades, proudly supporting thousands of U.S. troops through contributions facilitated by its vast network of military contacts.

As the organization continues to thrive, with a three-star rating from Charity Navigator, it invites more people to get involved, especially during Military Appreciation Month (May). By starting small, as advised on their website, anyone can contribute effectively to enriching the lives of those serving far from home, ensuring the younger service members feel remembered and valued. NC State Alum Celebrated as 2024 Military Engineer of the Year

NC State alumna Lt. Cmdr. Genevieve Flatgard has recently been honored as the 2024 Military Engineer of the Year by the Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command.

This recognition is attributed to her exemplary leadership and innovative engineering approaches within the Navy’s Public Works Department. Flatgard, who initially planned to study chemistry and pre-med, was guided into engineering by her father.

She completed her undergraduate and master's studies in various engineering disciplines at NC State and furthered her education with an MBA from Kenan-Flagler Business School. Her achievement not only highlights her expertise and dedication but also serves as a source of inspiration for future engineers, whom she actively encourages by sharing her experiences and insights into the profession’s problem-solving nature.

Just curious…

The Answer to the Cary Spotlight Hook Trivia Question 👇👇👇

Sir Roger Bannister, a British neurologist and middle-distance runner, famously broke the four-minute mile barrier on May 6, 1954, at the Iffley Road Track in Oxford. His record-setting time of 3 minutes 59.4 seconds was a monumental achievement in the world of athletics, shattering a psychological barrier and setting a new standard in middle-distance running. Bannister's accomplishment, achieved while he was still a medical student, remains one of the most iconic moments in sports history. Link to Bio
