Real Estate Commission Practices Overhauled Post-NAR Settlement
During a recent educational event hosted by Blackwell Mortgage in North Carolina, Vic Knight, a seasoned real estate professional with 40 years of experience, provided crucial insights into the evolving landscape of real estate commissions in the aftermath of a significant NAR settlement.
The event, part of a series called "Beyond Transactions: a Third Thursday Real Estate Mastermind," took place just days after the settlement, making it highly relevant for the attending real estate professionals. Knight explained that the traditional practice where the seller’s commission was split between the listing and buyer’s agents at closing is no longer a standard procedure. Now, buyer's agents are required to negotiate their commission directly with the listing agents. This shift could potentially lead to additional costs for buyers, as they might have to compensate their agents if the listing agents offer a lower commission than expected.
This change reflects a move towards more transparent dealings in real estate transactions, although it has led to confusion and misconceptions among consumers.
Some believe that the changes might reduce the costs of buying homes or eliminate the need for a realtor altogether, which industry experts quickly debunked. Knight’s discussion also highlighted the critical roles realtors play in ensuring clients make informed decisions and secure favorable deals in their real estate transactions.
Realtors assist with everything from providing comparative market analyses to negotiating terms and handling complex paperwork. Despite the changes in commission structures, the value of having a skilled realtor remains high, underscoring the importance of professional guidance in navigating the new rules and ensuring that buyers are aware of all potential costs involved.

The Answer to the Cary Spotlight Hook Trivia Question 👇👇👇
Charles Lindbergh Link to Bio
Charles Lindbergh, an iconic American aviator, achieved worldwide fame for his pioneering nonstop solo transatlantic flight in 1927. On May 20-21, he flew the "Spirit of St. Louis" from New York City to Paris, covering 3,600 miles in 33.5 hours. This remarkable feat was the first of its kind and marked a major milestone in aviation history, contributing significantly to the advancement of international commercial aviation and air mail services.
Lindbergh's life was marked by both his contributions to aviation and a series of high-profile personal and public challenges. His son's kidnapping and subsequent murder in 1932 became a notorious crime story of the era. Despite controversies over his political views, especially his non-interventionist stance before the U.S. entry into World War II, Lindbergh's technical contributions to aviation and his later environmental activism left a lasting legacy.
