Cary Police Hunt for Two Men After Truck Stolen at Gunpoint

The tranquility of a Cary neighborhood was shattered Tuesday evening when two men, armed and with notable dreadlock hairstyles, commandeered a red 2004 Chevy Avalanche at gunpoint.

The victim, forcibly removed from his vehicle in the 3400 block of Green Landing Drive, suffered minor injuries. Police, responding to the scene around 7:55 p.m., launched an intensive search for the stolen truck and its assailants.

The vehicle was eventually discovered on Westfalen Drive, yet the suspects remain at large, prompting ongoing efforts to apprehend them and address community concerns over safety.

Anyone with information is asked to call Cary Crimestoppers at (919) 460-4636.

A federal grand jury has indicted three men from Fayetteville, North Carolina, for their roles in a fraudulent scheme involving the theft and alteration of checks from USPS collection boxes in Wake County.

Darrell Alan Thompson, Antonio Rasheed Hair, and Michael James Pasea are accused of conspiring to commit bank fraud by stealing checks, changing the payee information, and then attempting to launder the money through bank withdrawals.

The charges include conspiracy to commit bank fraud and several counts of bank fraud and aiding and abetting. Thompson faces additional charges for theft of mail and illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition. The accused could face up to 30 years in prison for each bank fraud count, with Thompson potentially facing more time for the additional charges.

Cary Resident Serves Up Concerns Over Tennis Court Access

Note from Editor: We break from our usual Local Business Spotlight format to amplify this message from a local Cary resident and newsletter subscriber. We are publishing their original message in its original form without edits.

A Cary resident highlights a local policy that prevents the public from reserving tennis courts, contrasting with more accessible practices in nearby cities. This has sparked discussions on fairness and the use of public resources.

Paul writes, โ€œI was wondering if you would be interested in publishing a story about what I consider to be an issue in Cary. Cary does not allow citizens of Cary North Carolina to reserve tennis courts at courts that were paid for by our tax dollars.

I find this to be unfair. I have sent emails to the head of the parts [sic] department and they said they have no intention of allowing citizens to Reserve courts. The courts are exclusively reserved for city events USTA and coaching.

Citizens can only use courts when the city does not have activities there. But the city reserves most of the courts Monday through Friday all evening. And that is prime time when most people play tennis.

Other cities in the surrounding area allow you to reserve courts at their facilities, such as Holly Springs, Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill, but not Cary. Does that sound fair to you?

Apex North Carolina does not allow their citizens to reserve courts either.โ€

The Answer to the Cary Spotlight Hook Trivia Question ๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿ‘‡
C) Hedy Lamarr

Hedy Lamarr, celebrated as "The Most Beautiful Woman in Film," was also a brilliant inventor beyond her cinematic fame. In collaboration with composer George Anthiel, she co-invented "frequency hopping," a technique to secure radio transmissions by switching frequencies in a set pattern, aimed at thwarting Nazi communications during World War II. Initially overlooked by the U.S. Navy, their invention later became foundational for modern wireless technologies like Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, marking Lamarr's enduring impact beyond the silver screen.
