The Surge in Egg Freezing and What It Means for Women's Reproductive Freedom

The increasing popularity of egg freezing, evidenced by a 30% national increase in cycles between 2020 and 2021, represents a significant shift in reproductive technology and societal attitudes.

Melanie Bradshaw's personal experience with egg freezing, leading to motherhood in her 40s, illustrates the profound impact of this option.

The procedure, most effective between ages 25 and 35, is part of a larger movement towards empowering women to make life choices without the pressure of a biological clock.

The trend is also reflected in corporate policies, with major companies covering the costs of egg freezing, signaling a shift towards more female-friendly workplace benefits.

NC Rethinks Economic Incentives as Companies Go Remote

In North Carolina, economic development officials have ended incentive agreements with Clorox Services Company, Syneos Health, and Service Offsite Solutions, who have cited the shift towards remote work and strategic changes as reasons for not fulfilling job creation commitments.

This trend underscores the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on work practices and the challenges of aligning economic incentives with the reality of a more flexible, remote workforce.

Despite these cancellations, the companies continue to operate within the state, highlighting the ongoing adaptation to post-pandemic economic conditions. Read full story

Top Chefs Speak Out Against the Tipping Status Quo

The New York Times' interviews with prominent American chefs have brought to light widespread discontent with the practice of tipping in the restaurant industry.

Chefs like Eric Huang and Geoff Davis express frustration with the variability and unfairness of tipping, which not only impacts servers but also neglects the kitchen staff.

Despite attempts to innovate away from tipping, such as including service charges or raising prices, there remains significant resistance from both customers and staff.

This dissatisfaction is part of a larger national conversation about tipping's role in service industries and the quest for more equitable compensation models.

USWNT Faces Stunning Defeat to Mexico, Breaking Decades-Long Unbeaten Record

In an unexpected outcome, the USWNT suffered a 2-0 defeat to Mexico in the CONCACAF W Gold Cup group stage, breaking a 22-year home unbeaten streak against CONCACAF opponents and marking only their second loss to Mexico in 43 matches.
