U.S. Sees Surge in Unusual 'White Lung' Pneumonia in Children
As winter arrives, an increase in pneumonia among children, especially in the U.S. Midwest and South, is alarming health officials. Dr. Ibukun Kalu from Duke University has observed a growing number of hospital admissions for pneumonia, signaling a rise in severe cases.
These outbreaks, sometimes caused by the bacteria Mycoplasma, are distinctively appearing as "white lung" on medical imaging.

NCAA President Proposes Paying Athletes of Division I College Sports
NCAA President Charlie Baker is advocating for a radical restructuring of Division I college sports. He suggests creating a new tier within Division I, where wealthy schools would be required to provide a minimum annual payment of $30,000 to at least half their athletes.
This proposal also includes unrestricted educational benefits and the ability for all Division I schools to engage in NIL licensing deals.
Aimed at addressing financial and competitive disparities, this initiative allows individual schools to choose their participation level. Amidst legal challenges and debates on college athletics reform, Baker's proposal seeks to balance opportunities for all student-athletes while maintaining gender equity.
Florida State Triumphs Over Stanford for Fourth National Title
In an impressive display of skill and strategy, Florida State University's women's soccer team triumphed over Stanford with a 5-1 victory, securing their fourth national title since 2014.
The match was notable for its pairing of two undefeated teams, with Florida State finishing the season without a loss. The game was defined by a rapid succession of goals from Florida State, overcoming Stanford's historically strong defense.
The victory not only underscores Florida State's offensive strength but also adds another chapter to the storied rivalry between the two elite soccer programs. Read full story
