Expanded Gun Rights, Stricter Rioting Laws Take Effect in North Carolina

As of December 1, 2023, North Carolina has enacted over two dozen new laws. These include increased punishments for damaging energy facilities, stricter anti-rioting laws, expanded gun rights in places of worship, and prohibitions on state agencies from demanding job applicants disclose their personal and political beliefs.

The laws, passed by the Republican-controlled General Assembly, also increase penalties for offenses like pointing lasers at law enforcement and unauthorized street takeovers. Some laws, such as the state hiring policy changes, have faced opposition, including from Governor Roy Cooper.

Raleigh Man Arrested for Cary Homicide, Faces Court Hearing

Kevin Carole Williams, a 38-year-old Raleigh resident, has been arrested for the murder of 35-year-old Patrick A. McNeil in Cary.

The incident occurred in early November on Holly Springs Road. The Wake County Sheriffโ€™s Office responded to the scene around 8:30 p.m. on November 7, where they found McNeil with a fatal gunshot wound.

Williams was apprehended in Garner and is now being held without bail at the Wake County Jail, with his court date set for Monday. Read full story

Investigations Into Raleigh Landlord's $18,000 Beer Pong Table Charge

Lisa Eustathiou, a landlord with properties in Raleigh, North Carolina, is facing investigations for charging exorbitant fines to former tenants, primarily NC State students.

After charging $23,000 in fines, including an $18,000 fee for a beer pong table, Eustathiou has attracted the attention of the North Carolina Attorney General and the Real Estate Commission.

The attorney general's office is considering legal action, and the commission is investigating her real estate license, with 24 tenants reporting issues.

Eustathiou's attorney maintains her innocence, and she has since withdrawn the charge for the table. The commission's investigation is expected to be completed by mid-December.

McNeil Sets Up Semifinal Showdown with NC State's Jack at Las Vegas Invitational

In the 2023 Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational, wrestler Lachlan McNeil, ranked third nationally in the 141-pound division, successfully advanced to the semifinals after winning three matches on the first day.

His final victory of the day was against the 19th-ranked Anthony Echemendia from Iowa State. McNeil, originally from Toronto, Ontario, is preparing for a semifinal bout against No. 7 ranked Ryan Jack of NC State.
