2023 ESPN Band of the Year Finalists: HBCU Marching Bands Take Center Stage

The finalists for the 2023 ESPN Band of the Year have been announced, featuring the best HBCU marching bands from Division I and II/NAIA.

The Division II finalists are Florida Memorial’s “The Roar” and Virginia State University’s “Trojan Explosion.” In Division I, North Carolina A&T’s “Blue and Gold Marching Machine” and Jackson State University’s “Sonic Boom of the South” have been chosen.

Selected from ten bands, these finalists will compete for the title on December 15 at the Mercedes-Benz Dome in Atlanta, GA, with the event simulcast on ESPN3 and ESPN Plus. Read full story.

Pantry Bowl 2023: NC State Triumphs in Fundraising Battle with UNC

NC State triumphed over UNC in the third annual Pantry Bowl, raising substantial funds for their respective food pantries. The week-long event, coinciding with their football rivalry, accumulated a total of 2,648 gifts and $199,289.08. 

NC State contributed 1,634 gifts, amounting to $125,162.15. This victory, beyond the rivalry, significantly supports efforts to combat food insecurity on both campuses. Read Full Story

Cary Community Choir Ushers in the Holiday Season with 53rd Annual Handel's Messiah Performance

On December 3, 2023, the Cary Community Choir will continue its cherished tradition by presenting the 53rd annual performance of George Frederic Handel's "Messiah." 

This event, a staple of the holiday season in Cary, North Carolina, will take place at the Westwood Baptist Church. Starting at 7:30 p.m., the performance is not only a testament to the choir's dedication but also serves as a community gathering, free and open to all.

The choir, composed entirely of volunteers, embodies the spirit of the season and community engagement, encouraging donations in lieu of a fixed admission fee. Learn more here
