Shoppers Flee in Alarm Following Unexplained Noise at Crabtree Valley Mall

On Friday morning, shoppers at Raleigh's Crabtree Valley Mall were startled by a noise that led to a mass exit from the mall, under the belief that it was gunfire.

Raleigh Police responded to the scene but found no evidence of shots being fired and no injuries.

The police investigation suggested the noise occurred amidst a small protest in the mall. Efforts to determine the exact cause of the noise are ongoing, and the mall has since returned to normal operations.

Cary Seeks Public Input on Reallocating $1M in Community Development Funds

 Cary is proposing to amend its Annual Action Plans for 2017-2022 to redirect $1,000,000 in expired CDBG funds to a local initiative.

The public can comment on this until November 30, 2023, through email, mail, or in person at a public meeting on November 29. The amendment can be reviewed online or obtained by request.

Nursing Home Worker Arrested After Elderly Resident's Hypothermia Death

Colleen Kelly O’Connor of East Lansing has been charged with vulnerable adult abuse after an elderly resident of the nursing home where she worked died of hypothermia.

The resident, Lois Kathryn Cary, became disoriented during a blizzard. O’Connor is accused of failing to act despite observing the victim in danger. Her attorney plans to challenge the charges, citing O’Connor's long, complaint-free career.

HBCU Band of the Year Rankings Set Stage for Exciting Atlanta Finale

The Band of the Year (BOTY) competition, focusing on Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) marching bands, announced its November rankings, with the final ranking set for release on November 28.

This competition, which culminates in a national championship event at Atlanta's Mercedes-Benz Stadium. The participating bands are judged on criteria including musicianship, originality, precision, and showmanship.
