Man Faces Kidnapping, DUI Charges After High-Speed Pursuit in Wake County
Joshua Taylor Stokes from Virginia Beach led law enforcement on a high-speed chase through North Carolina, resulting in his arrest and charges of kidnapping, among other felonies.
Stokes, driving a purple Dodge Challenger, sped through several counties before crashing.
The female owner of the car, who had been reported missing and presumed kidnapped by Stokes, was found inside. After the crash, both were transported to Wake Medical Center for treatment.
Stokes, against whom she had an active domestic violence protection order, awaits extradition to Virginia. Read full story
Federal Authorities Uncover $24 Million Check-Theft Ring Involving Postal Clerk
Nakedra Shannon, 29, a USPS employee, and her co-conspirators, Donnell Gardner, 27, and Desiray Carter, 24, have been arrested on federal charges for stealing more than $24 million in checks from the mail.
The checks were sold on platforms like Telegram. The defendants face multiple counts of conspiracy, theft of government property, and possession of stolen mail, with Shannon facing additional charges for mail theft by a postal employee. Read full story

This holiday season, THE POLAR EXPRESS™ Train Ride offers a magical experience for families, running on select dates from November 10 to December 23, 2023.
Inspired by the popular movie, the train ride includes a live reading of "The Polar Express," hot chocolate, cookies, and a visit to the North Pole, where Santa presents the first Christmas gift.
Children who believe in the magic of Christmas receive a sleigh bell, and all are encouraged to wear pajamas, adding to the festive atmosphere.
