Cary Police Investigate String of Restaurant Break-Ins, Community on Alert
In a series of break-ins affecting Cary and Raleigh, NC, four restaurants in Cary suffered thefts and property damage. Gonza Tacos y Tequila and the Cary Pub were among the targeted, with the former experiencing a break-in and the latter facing an attempted entry.
Totopos and Brothers of NY Pizza reported cash thefts. Vic's Italian Restaurant in Downtown Raleigh was also broken into. The incidents, believed to be connected, have caused frustration and concern among the local small business community. See video report here.
Record Number of College Teams Join Food Lion's Fight Against Hunger
The "Score to Give More" program by Food Lion Feeds, entering its fifth season, partners with a record 53 men’s and women’s collegiate basketball teams to combat food insecurity.
For each free throw made, the program donates 100 meals, potentially contributing up to 30,000 meals per team.
This year, the inclusion of women's teams aims to increase awareness and participation. The program, which spans 10 states, supports local Feeding America food banks and has provided over 3.2 million meals since 2019.

Penalty Shootout Heartbreak for UNC Men’s Soccer in ACC Championship Final
UNC men's soccer team lost to Clemson in a penalty shootout (5-3) following a 1-1 draw in the ACC Championship game. The team had a notable journey to the final and now looks forward to their NCAA tournament seeding.
UNC had an impressive path to the final, defeating higher-seeded teams, but ultimately fell short in the final. The team's performance harkens back to their last ACC win in 2011, and they now await their position in the NCAA tournament.
UNC Triumphs in Double-Overtime Classic Against Duke, Maye Shines
In a nail-biting match, UNC's quarterback Drake Maye played a pivotal role in securing a 47-45 double-overtime win over Duke.
The game saw several lead changes, with UNC tying the game at the end of the fourth quarter, leading to overtime. Maye's agility and strategic plays, including a crucial touchdown and a two-point conversion in the second overtime, were key to the victory.
Despite Duke's valiant effort led by freshman Grayson Loftis, UNC's persistence paid off in the end.
From Last to First: Eli Manning's Gotham FC Clinches NWSL Championship
NJ/NY Gotham FC, partially owned by Eli Manning, achieved a stunning victory in the NWSL Championship, defeating OL Reign 2-1.
The team's success followed a remarkable reversal of fortunes, having finished last in the league in 2022. A managerial change and roster revamp led them to the playoffs as the sixth seed, where they defeated North Carolina Courage and Portland Thorns.
The championship game was also notable as the final professional match for team captain Ali Krieger. This championship team also had two former NC Courage players in pivotal roles, McCall Zerboni (Midfielder) and Lynn Williams (Forward).

Carolina Hurricanes Amplify Cancer Awareness with Wednesday’s Game
The Carolina Hurricanes' upcoming game against the Philadelphia Flyers is dedicated to Hockey Fights Cancer awareness. Before the game, players will visit UNC Children’s Hospital to meet cancer patients.
On game day, the team will host a special experience for a child patient. Corporate partners will change their logos to lavender for the event.
The Hurricanes are also hosting a blood drive with The Blood Connection. During the game, cancer research and support organizations will engage with fans. The team’s foundation will auction autographed items and sell limited-edition mystery pucks to raise funds for cancer support. Read full article here.
