Heat of the moment

Lowe's Pulls Electric Fireplaces Off Shelves Following Safety Concerns

Twin-Star Style Selections has issued a recall for a specific model of electric infrared fireplaces sold exclusively at Lowe's, following 24 reports of the units overheating, smoking, or catching fire, including two instances causing property damage.

The recall affects the 42-inch Black Infrared Quartz Electric Fireplace, model number 42HF295FGT, manufactured before January 2023 with specific date codes. Consumers owning these fireplaces can obtain a full refund by completing an online form on Twin-Star's recall page.

Blush Cowork Flourishes as WeWork Faces Bankruptcy

WeWork, a major player in the office sharing industry, has declared bankruptcy amid changing work trends post-pandemic.

The company operates in 39 countries with 800 locations, including in North Carolina. However, smaller, community-focused spaces like Blush Cowork in Cary, founded by Alison Rogers, are finding success.

Blush offers a family-friendly environment with on-site childcare and has grown to 65 members. While WeWork struggles with competition, Blush Cowork's model, emphasizing community, is gaining traction, reflecting a shift in coworking space preferences.

Raleigh Man Wins $200,000 Lottery, Plans Dream Cruise for Mom

Michael Harrington, a resident of Raleigh, struck luck by winning $200,000 in the Carolina Jackpot Second Chance drawing, chosen from over 4.1 million entries.

He plans to use this unexpected fortune to give his mother a memorable cruise experience, a plan he had in mind but can now enhance with the winnings. Harrington, still in disbelief, collected his prize of $142,500 after taxes at the lottery headquarters and intends to also use part of the funds to pay bills.
