Eli Lilly's Zepbound Wins FDA Nod, Promises Major Weight Loss
The FDA approves Eli Lilly's weight loss drug, Zepbound, which has shown to help people lose up to 52 pounds, but its high cost may limit accessibility.
The drug, set to be available in the U.S. by year's end, is priced at about $1,060 per month, a cost that may be prohibitive for many without insurance coverage.
Zepbound works by mimicking hormones that control appetite and food intake, and it has shown results comparable to bariatric surgery in its effectiveness. Despite its price, analysts believe Zepbound has the potential to become the most successful drug in its class. Read full story here.
Vanderbilt and Duke Universities Win $1.25M for AI Healthcare Project
Vanderbilt University Medical Center and Duke University School of Medicine have received a $1.25 million grant to enhance artificial intelligence oversight in healthcare.
The funding will support the creation of a maturity model that will define the necessary competencies for health systems to reliably utilize AI.
This project is in collaboration with the Coalition for Health AI and the University of Iowa, and over the next year, it will involve concerted efforts with healthcare stakeholders to ensure a standardized, trustworthy approach to AI in healthcare.
Disabled Marine Corps Veteran Receives New Car in 'Keys to Progress' Program"
In a heartfelt gesture of gratitude, Raleigh-based disabled Marine Corps veteran Cody Burks and his growing family are celebrating a significant easing of their transportation worries.
The gift of a new Toyota Camry was bestowed upon them through Progressive Insurance's "Keys to Progress" program, which joins forces with various companies to provide vehicles to veterans across the nation.
The timing was perfect for the Burks family, who have a baby on the way and were in need of a vehicle that could accommodate a car seat. The gift, which also included a trunk full of baby and home supplies, offers significant relief from financial and logistical challenges. Read full story here.
