Clocks to Fall Back as Daylight Saving Time Ends This Weekend
Daylight Saving Time is ending this Sunday, November 5, as clocks turn back one hour to standard time. The annual ritual of setting clocks back an hour marks the end of Daylight Saving Time this Sunday, signaling longer nights ahead.
This practice, which extends daylight in the evenings, has been a part of American life since it was adopted to save fuel during World War I and II.
Despite its longevity, Daylight Saving Time has been met with mixed reactions and varying impacts on public safety, health, and commerce. While some sectors of the economy benefit from the extended daylight, others, like the movie industry and agriculture, do not.
The health implications are also ambiguous, with studies showing both negative and positive effects. Although the Senate has passed a bill to make Daylight Saving Time permanent, the lack of action in the House means Americans will continue to adjust their clocks twice a year for the foreseeable future.
Murder Trial Set for Man Accused of Dismembering Victim in Wake County
Lance Darnell Gordon has been indicted by a Wake County grand jury for the murder and dismemberment of Angela Mac Lee in 2020, with his trial set to commence in January.
A Wake County grand jury has formally charged Lance Darnell Gordon in connection with the 2020 murder of Angela Mac Lee, whose dismembered remains were discovered in her own vehicle.
The case unfolded when Gordon was stopped for speeding by the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, leading to the discovery that the vehicle belonged to Lee, who was subsequently reported missing.
An investigation ensued, culminating in the discovery of Lee's remains and Gordon's arrest on charges of murder and vehicle theft. Over three years after the grim discovery, the grand jury has indicted Gordon for concealing Lee's death and failing to report it, with allegations of dismemberment. Gordon is scheduled for a court appearance on November 6, ahead of his murder trial slated for January 15.

Basketball Icon Bob Knight Passes Away at 83
The sports world mourns the loss of Bob Knight, the legendary basketball coach whose fiery tenure at Indiana University brought three national championships and an unmatched undefeated season. Knight, 83, passed away surrounded by family, leaving behind a complex legacy of triumph, controversy, and unyielding dedication to the sport.
Knight's journey in basketball began at a young age in Ohio and flourished at Ohio State as a player. His coaching career took off when he became the youngest head coach at a Division I school with Army, but it was at Indiana where his legend was cemented. With the Hoosiers, Knight not only set records for wins but also for his passionate — often contentious — approach to coaching.
His career was a tapestry of remarkable highs, such as the gold medal with the 1984 U.S. Olympic team, and notable lows, including several physical altercations and his contentious departure from Indiana. Knight's later years at Texas Tech were marked by continued success and a final act that reflected his personal and professional mantra, doing things "My Way."
Seminoles Eye Fourth Consecutive ACC Soccer Crown
The Florida State Seminoles secured their spot in the ACC Women's Soccer Tournament Championship after a decisive 2-0 victory over Pitt.
Despite a scoreless first half, FSU's persistent offense, with a 10-2 shot advantage, paid off when Jody Brown assisted Jordynn Dudley's header in the 70th minute. The Seminoles doubled their lead five minutes later with Beata Olsson's goal, also a header, from Taylor Huff's corner kick.
FSU's formidable second-half performance this season continued, outscoring opponents significantly, especially in the closing minutes of matches. Goalkeeper Cristina Roque contributed with three saves, maintaining FSU's strong defensive record. The team now looks ahead to a championship clash with Clemson, aiming to add another title to their impressive legacy.

From Rebrand to Revamp: North Carolina FC Charts New Course to League Final
In a strategic pivot towards youth, North Carolina FC has reaped the rewards of their approach with a spot in the 2023 USL League One Final against the Charlotte Independence.
This shift is part of a broader trend in professional soccer where clubs invest in young talent to cultivate and potentially profit from their development.
North Carolina FC, which has undergone several identity changes since its inception in 2006, has found a consistent purpose in fostering young players. This approach aligns with the Raleigh-Durham area's rich vein of youth soccer participation and development.
The results have been striking: a jump from 11th to 2nd place, a significant increase in points and goals scored, and a notable decrease in goals conceded. Coach Bradford's leadership has been pivotal in this transformation, earning him a nomination for USL League One Coach of the Year.
